The advantages of flax fiber are considerable: the flax plant requires significantly less water to produce compared to the same amount of cotton. With flax, natural rainfall is sufficient for plant growth and no additional irrigation is required. Flax is very undemanding and even thrives on poor soils. In addition, 5 times less (or no) pesticides and fertilizers are used when growing flax, as flax is not as susceptible. Flax cultivation is resource and environmentally friendly. Linen is processed mechanically and no chemicals are required.

Even smarter: we use recycled linen from production waste as filling material for our outdoor jackets.

Cupro wird von der Firma Asahi Kasei unter dem Namen Bemberg in einem sehr geschlossenen Kreislauf produziert. Dafür wird Abfall aus der Baumwollproduktion (der Cotton Linters) verwendet. Dieses optimierte Streckspinnverfahren funktioniert mit einer Lösung aus Kupfer, Ammoniak und Zellulose. Was neu ist, sind geschlossene Wasserkreisläufe und die fast komplette Rückgewinnung aller verwendeten Wirkstoffe.
So werden zum Beispiel 99.9 Prozent des Kupfers vom Abwasser getrennt und für den Herstellungsprozess zurückgewonnen. Die Rückstände, die im Wasser bleiben, sind so geringfügig, dass sie problemlos den japanischen Standards genügen – und der japanische Standard ist im internationalen Vergleich anspruchsvoll. Die gewonnenen Fasern selbst sind Oeko-Tex 100 zertifiziert und dadurch ausgezeichnet, was ihre Hautverträglichkeit betrifft.

Cupro aus dem Hause Asahi Kasei ist sogar biologisch. Diese Fasern werden gerne auch als ‚Bemberg-Seide‘ bezeichnet. Sie sind seidig weich, knittern kaum und halten die Farbe besonders gut, darüber hinaus sind sie sehr langlebig.

TENCEL™ ist eine Marke der Lenzing AG in Österreich, bei der die verwendeten Lyocellfasern aus dem erneuerbaren Rohstoff Holz stammen. Die Faserherstellung ist durch den geschlossenen Kreislauf des Herstellungsprozesses besonders umweltfreundlich. Das Holz und der von der Lenzing Gruppe verwendete Zellstoff werden aus zertifizierten und kontrollierten Quellen gewonnen. TENCEL™ Fasern sind biologisch abbaubar und kompostierbar und können wieder vollständig in die Natur rückgeführt werden. Sie haben eine sehr glatte Oberfläche mit seidigem Griff, wärmen beinahe ebenso gut wie Schafschurwolle, sind ähnlich kühl wie Leinen und saugfähiger als Baumwolle.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose fibers are made exclusively from certified and controlled wood sources and are produced with significantly less fossil energy and water than generic viscose. The production of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers causes 50% less emissions and water pollution compared to conventionally produced viscose. They are certified with the internationally recognized EU Ecolabel. This label for environmental awareness is only awarded to products and services that have a significantly lower environmental impact throughout their entire life cycle: from raw material extraction and production to distribution and disposal. Recycled polyester from production waste helps to significantly reduce the waste problem: Expressed in figures, one tonne of recycled polyester saves around 5.7 cubic meters of waste. In addition, recycling offers immense potential savings in terms of the energy used: compared to the production of conventional cotton, and of course compared to the production of new polyester, studies have shown a potential saving of between 40% and 85%. The same applies to the use of water, where up to 90% of the water used can be saved compared to initial production.
